Interview: Sam Kadence!

We would like to welcome new YA Author Sam Kadence to our blog today to show off Sam's new release!

1. What do you like about YA over adult books?
In the past few years there have been a lot of YA books released that are stories of endless woe-is-me, the world is against me stuff. I like that YA books deal with adult situations to help prepare youth without pushing them too hard to be adults. I love seeing young people overcome obstacles that make them stronger. I think the Harry Potter series were some of the best YA books written, until the last few when the woe-is-me set in, but I do believe kids can benefit from strong characters like Harry, Ron, and Hermoine.

2. If you could have super powers what would they be?I would just know things about people as soon as I saw them. Like whether or not they were nice or if all they wanted was money. Reading people that deeply immediately would probably improve my life in many ways. I could even get a high paying job with the government telling them who would drop bombs and who wouldn't.

3. Do you have any odd writing habits?
I go for weeks without writing, just read, read, and read some more. Then I’ll write hours every day for a couple months. It’s not the daily plan I see a lot of other writers have, but I really work with what inspires me, which means sometimes I have several projects going at once.

4. Do you have more books planned to follow Evolution?
I’m working on the sequel to Evolution, which is mostly written, just  needs some rewriting. I also have a book coming out in the fall that is a stand alone novel called On the Right Track. The book is a contemporary story of two young men, one famous, one just the boy next door, who meet and fall in love.

5. Would you ever write yourself into one of your books?
I have a million times with changes of course. I would never write myself with my normal ginger hair or freckles. You’ll find a lot of the angst and character flaws come from things I have suffered through myself. Essentially all the characters are an extension of me, distilled, shaken, and poured out for all to see.

Do you have anything else you would like to say to your readers out there?
I hope that I've written a book to help you escape from life for a couple hours. My goal is only for you to enjoy what I write, and even if that time is fleeting, give you as a reader a few hours inside someone else’s life. That being said, thank you for reading.

Thank you so much for joining us today! We're very excited about this book. Make sure you go and check it out! You won't be disappointed.

Blurb:

Gene Sage has only ever wanted to sing, but his band, Evolution, is pushing him toward the big time. He finds it hard to focus on making musical history when he’s dreaming of graveyards and seeing ghosts. And while all he can think of is hiding who he is from a world unforgiving of anyone different, he discovers he’s also the ultimate snack for vampires and demons. When Gene literally runs into—over—his idol, Kerstrande Petterson, rock god, vampire in hiding, and music cynic, his life falls over the edge into chaos.

Jaded by the world and nearly a decade in the music business, Kerstrande thinks Gene wants to use him to make Evolution immortal in more than one way, but he can’t seem to brush aside the young singer’s enthusiasm.

Getting involved with Kerstrande drags Gene into otherworldly power struggles. Between the ghosts stalking them, the media painting supernaturals as villains, and a vampire out of control in the city, the only way for Gene and Kerstrande to survive is for Gene to embrace his powers—and his destiny.
