Kindred Kraze - Hunted!

We continue on to day two of our Kindred Kraze!

Sophia Waterhouse has always been afraid of needles and vampires so there’s no way she wants anything to do with a modern day Count Dracula—even if he does come wrapped in the package of a huge Kindred warrior with blond hair and ice blue eyes. She’s only on the Kindred Mothership to participate in her sister Liv’s wedding and that’s all.

Sylvan is a Tranq Kindred who has made a sacred vow never to call a bride. After a devastating rejection on his home planet, his heart is a block of ice no one can melt—or so he thinks until he meets Sophia.

When their ship is forced down in the middle of a rugged mountain range Sophia and Sylvan are stranded. Running for their lives they have only each other to depend on. Will they give in to the intense attraction between them or will the evil hunting Sophia take its toll?

Sophia Waterhouse is a girl I can understand. Shy, insecure and terrified of needles. If she had come with a spider phobia I would have sworn this was a book about me!! I'm ashamed to say I liked this one better then her sister's story. Partially cause in the first book you see the growing tension between the two characters and while you are enjoying Olivia and Baird you are side rooting for Sophia and Sylvan. I was glad they were next. Sylvan was great too. I really felt for him as he had to battle not only the evil coming after them but his own inner demons. It was also good to see the second type of Kindred warrior and the differences between the the beast and the blood kindred. Evangeline continues to show her ability to get us emotionally attached to her characters and get us steamed up at the same time. I love it.

Kindred Kraze with Evangeline Anderson Day One!

For the next eight days the Book Whores will be taking you through an adventure into space as we start at the beginning of Author Evangeline Anderson's Brides of the Kindred series! We hope you will join us each day as we tell you about each book and what we loved about them!

Olivia Waterhouse has just graduated from nursing school and has her whole life ahead of her—until she gets drafted. Problem is, she isn't being forced into the Army, she’s been chosen as a Kindred bride.

The Kindred are huge alien warriors—a race of genetic traders whose population is ninety-five percent male. After saving Earth from the threat of invasion they demand a reward—the right to find brides among the population. The chances of being chosen are about the same as those of winning the lottery—guess it’s just Liv’s lucky day.

Baird is a Beast Kindred who recently escaped imprisonment and torture at the hands of the malevolent Scourge. Through the torment and pain only one thing kept him sane—the thought of finding and claiming his bride—Olivia. His need to possess her is a burning intensity that threatens to consume them both.

Angry at having her future and her family taken away from her, Liv vows to fight back the only way she can—by resisting. She has one month on the Kindred Mothership with Baird—their claiming period. If she can keep from having bonding sex with him during that time, she can go home and get on with her life on Earth.

But Baird isn't going to make it easy for her. Every week he is allowed to touch Liv more and more intimately and according to the contract she signed, she has to let him. She’s determined to resist him but his touch sets her on fire. And just as she thinks she knows what she wants, a twist of fate and an attack by the faceless Scourge AllFather changes everything…

Here we go! Book one! Let's just say Holy Cow! Way to start off with a bang. They say that the first book in a series can either make or break you for the rest of them. Not only did she make it, but she is now on her own little pedestal in my little reader heart <3! Now I'm a little biased, cause you know, I've read some of her other books. Anyways, onto the show, story, thingy. Talk about a roller coaster of emotions! I can only imagine how Olivia feels having some giant alien say hey guess what, I dreamed about you, you're mine! I'm not exactly a fierce female, but I'd be putting the breaks on too. I loved how detailed she went into the claiming period and all the different parts of it, and *swoon*. I like myself a big growly guy who knows what he wants and Baird is exactly that. There is a lot of back and forth with her trying to decide what she wants, and then right when things start to settle we get to meet the Scourge!

Great start to the series, can't wait to keep going!

Lethal Obsession by Shandra Miller

We are happy to be a part of Shandra Miller's blog hop to showcase her book Lethal Obsession as we look forward to the next book!

Angela Martin is like everyone else. She wants acceptance. Love. Passion.

For five years she’s lived with the pain of knowing her husband cheats on her. She’s dealt with the heart-rending rejection by rebuilding her life around her work, becoming the first woman detective in the history of the Moose Creek, N.C., police department.

Then she stumbles upon him. A man who reawakens desire, who makes her feel more alive than she believed possible by pulling her into a world of bondage and dominance, devotion and trust taken to a new level, fear mingling with desire, a craving stronger than any drug.

Soon women start turning up dead in Moose Creek, bound and tortured, tied in ways that Angela finds startling familiar. Angela’s heart tells her that her newfound love cannot be the killer, her detective instincts tell her otherwise, and her obsession with this new lifestyle draws her back to him, even at the risk of her life.

LETHAL OBSESSION is a tale of sex and bondage, love and fear, desire and suspicion, with an ending that will leave you breathless, craving more.

This book was really intense. Like grab you by the throat and hang you on the edge of your seat. It was very intense. It was not predicable at all. I kept sitting there thinking I knew who the bad guy was. Nope. I'm interested to see where she goes with this.

Wind Warrior by Jon Messenger

THE EARTH GIVES WAY TO THE SEA,

THE SEA BOWS BEFORE THE WIND,

THE WIND FEEDS THE FLAME,

THE FLAME BURNS THE WORLD OF MAN DOWN TO THE EARTH.

The sleepy town of White Halls harbors a dangerous secret. On a picturesque street, two houses down from a lovely little park, in a quaint little home with a wraparound porch, lives a family that seems rather normal. Sure, their twenty-year-old son, Xander, still lives at home, but he’s going to college and dating the leader of the schools top sorority. It’s all very… normal.

However, when a man is miraculously saved from being hit by a bus, Xander’s life turns in to the living embodiment of the tornadoes he can suddenly create with a flick of his wrist. Whether he wants this gift or not, Xander must learn to use his new ‘super power’ quickly if he wants to survive. For his kind is a dying race, and when this sleepy town has a sudden influx of new, blonde, fire wielders, no one is safe, especially Xander. It doesn’t help that one of these blondes happens to be the most beautiful girl he has ever seen. Xander can’t deny the instant connection he feels to her so, when she tries to kill him, it certainly makes things complicated

Xander is a normal college guy, a little on the nerdy side but pretty normal, until weird things start happening to him. Now, I didn't go to college but unfortunately high school is still burned into my brain and I remember all to well the crazy that goes on there. The author did a great job of capturing super conflicted young adult. All I wanted growing up was super powers. (I'm an x-men girl) So it was really fun to read about this guy coming into his super powers, and then facing the harsh reality about what to do with them. Go into hiding? Save the world? So many choices. This is a great story and a great start to a series. Got me choked up a couple times, and totally leaves you ready for the next book. I can't wait to see where the author takes us next.

Honor C by C. Zampa

When Honor Castillo convinces himself he isn't gay, he begins a new life. He ends his affair with his lover, Jorge Villagomez, and marries Rebecca to establish a life with her as a respected San Antonio businessman. They have a son and he tells himself he is happy.

Eleven years later, Jorge returns to San Antonio, and his path crosses with Honor’s once more. The flame of their passion never died, and neither did Jorge’s love for Honor.

When Jorge approaches Honor to design his studio, Honor believes he can walk the line between friendship and lovers. But when a sudden crisis threatens to take Jorge from him forever, Honor must choose between his duty and his heart. Most of all, he’s forced to decide what he’s willing to lose in order to be true to who he really is.

This was really cool. Definitely a different take then we usually see on M/M stories. Despite knowing how much he loves Jorge as a young man he convinces himself to marry Rebecca. The turmoil he goes through is killer. Tragically conflicted in so many ways when Jorge comes back in his life.

How do you do that? How do come to terms with getting away from what you've believed is wrong your entire life to following your heart to happiness. Well this is the perfect story to show you. I'm sure by now you guys have figured out I'm a crier. My heart goes out whenever anyone is hurting. I really love how instead of being shifted to the side Rebecca got to have her own piece in this. Showing not only how Jorge and Honor handled the strained relationships, but Rebecca too. It definitely took the story to a higher level for me.

To the Highest Bidder by Jordan Brewer

In the faraway land of Amerito, Jonathan D'Angelo is a prince, but even a prince must yield to the king's rule. Entirely deprived of affection and loving physical contact, Jonathan spends his days on a strict regimen of study and tutelage, horse training, and weapons techniques.

Exploiting Jonathan's virginity like a bargaining chip, his scheming monarch father arranges two marriages for his son: one with the kind and beautiful prince in the prosperous kingdom of Utica, the other with a king who is a notorious sexual sadist.

After a desperate attempt to avoid the match, Jonathan meets his betrothed Prince Adrian. Immediately enraptured by the young man's beauty, Jonathan learns to fully embrace the union. Under Adrian's tender guidance, Jonathan comes to terms with his sexuality, discovers erotic pleasures, and falls in love.

When the king attempts to destroy their union, Jonathan defies his father and triggers an escalation of monarchical hostility complete with kidnapping, heinous torture, bloody battles, and revolution. Against all odds, Jonathan and Adrian must vanquish their enemies to bring peace, not only to Amerito, but to all kingdoms

This is a beautiful story. Heart wrenching, emotional, drag your heart through the gutters and then put it back together. So many times in this story did I have to pause and get a tissue. I was a mess, but as soon as I wiped my eyes and sniffed a little I dug right back in. I can't even express how touching it was. The Author did an AMAZING job writing these two, and making them human.

A lot of times we find that our fairytales that we love to read are all insta happy and perfection. This is for sure not one of them. These two go through sooooo much to build their relationship and go from just a marriage of convenience to a solid relationship with love and hope for the future. It's hard too, not just oh we have a couple bumps in the road and we'll be find in a chapter. There's almost dying, a lot of that actually, betrayal and chaos.

Jordan Brewer you have me hooked. I will be anxiously awaiting anything else of yours that comes out. It was a great story, one I will definitely reread. Once I stock up on some tissues :-)

Dear Soldier, With Love 1 & 2

Dear Soldier, With Love...

A mysterious love letter, no name and no return address shows up in a soldier’s hands looking for her lost Beloved Soldier, unable to find him to reaches out to a soldier who perhaps no longer feels the reach of his woman hoping to touch someone that will in turn bring back her beloved.

Army Specialist Christian Brice was the first to receive the letter coming only a month after his fiancĂ© had sent him a Dear John, so moved and touched he writes her back, but unable to send it directly he shares both the letter and his correspondence with others like him and thus begins the journey of a woman’s heartfelt words across a war torn area to deliver a sweet kiss to those who need to feel it.

Word spreads of the Beloved Woman and so does the number of correspondences, some of passion and appreciation, others sharing a far more open and sensual fantasy with her, each one added to the bundle that carries her from one soldier to the next, until she lands in the hands of Airforce Senior Airman Miles Conley who comes across the man it was intended for.

This was a very hard story to read. Not because it was bad, but because it was a very emotional tale. I have a hard time with anything war related. I'm a mushy emotional person, so I get choked up pretty easy. This was for sure one of those times. It's heart wrenching to know that so many people are affected by things just like what we hear in this story. I did feel like I was waiting for it to settle on one person, which it did a little bit at the end, but you don't really get to know the characters as well as you do with a story focused on very specific people. I loved the concept though, it was an original thought, and I liked that it was something out of the norm.

Dear Soldier, With Love: A Lost Soldier Named Grey

Chief Warrant Officer V Grey Lawrence never once stopped to consider what he was doing or why, just being there for Nathan Blaise, a Senior Technician of Explosives Ordinance Disposal, who'd just lost his leg from a mission gone wrong, seemed to be the right thing to do. And somehow Grey found some renewing comfort of his own when he was with him. Only Nathan would be transferring home back to the state-side of the world soon, Grey still had the war's wounded to deal with here. So why was he doing this to himself? Reasons only a past Dear John letter and the restored heart he found when he read the touching words written by an anonymous woman, the soldiers had penned 'the Beloved Woman' could explain. Perhaps those two things plus the half of a wounded man who could heal Grey's own dark half would deliver him to a future he never imagined or expected for himself again.

This is the second one in the series. I have to say I liked this one a lot better than the first one. I really enjoyed the interaction between Grey and Nathan. It was a really emotional tale about two soldiers who are both having a hard time getting past the horrors they have seen and are still dealing with and how they heal each other. I can't imagine how hard it would be to be in either of their positions. This one totally made me cry as I watched (read, same thing!) Grey and Nathan work on getting past both physical and emotional pain. Good job!
